This easy pizza dough recipe uses just 6 simple ingredients to create a chewy, golden crust perfect for your favorite toppings. Whether you’re planning a weeknight dinner or a family pizza night, this recipe is a must-have.
🍽️ Equipment¶
- Mixing bowl
- Stand mixer with dough hook (optional, can knead by hand)
- Plastic wrap
- Large bowl (for rising)
- Parchment paper
- Pizza pan or baking sheet
🥖 Ingredients (for 1 x 12-inch pizza)¶
- ¾ cup warm water (100–110°F / 38–43°C) — 180 mL
- 1 packet active dry yeast (0.25 oz / 7 g)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar — divided (12.5 g)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour — 240 g
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (plus more for brushing) — 15 mL
- ¾ teaspoon salt — 4.5 g
👩🍳 Instructions¶
-
Bloom the yeast
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine ¾ cup (180 mL) warm water, 1 packet (7 g) active dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon (4 g) sugar. Stir and let sit for 5–7 minutes, until frothy. -
Mix the dough
Add 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil, ¾ teaspoon (4.5 g) salt, and the remaining 2 teaspoons (8 g) sugar to the bloomed yeast.
Using the dough hook, mix on low for 1 minute, then increase to medium-low until the dough forms a smooth ball, about 5 minutes. (If making by hand, stir with a wooden spoon and knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, 8–10 minutes.) -
First rise
Shape the dough into a ball and place in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and set in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size — about 1 hour. -
Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). -
Shape the dough
Punch down the risen dough and roll into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle on a lightly floured surface, leaving a thicker rim at the edge.
Place on a parchment-lined pizza pan or baking sheet. Brush the rim with olive oil if desired. -
Top & bake
Add your sauce, cheese, and toppings of choice. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
💡 Notes & Variations¶
- Don’t use hot water — keep it at 100–110°F (38–43°C) so the yeast activates without dying.
- For faster rise: Use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast (skip blooming step).
- For chewier crust: Replace all-purpose flour with bread flour or 00 pizza flour.
- Flavor boost: Add 1 tablespoon (6 g) dried Italian herbs, basil, or garlic powder with the flour.
- Hand mixing: If no stand mixer, knead by hand for 8–10 minutes until elastic.
