🔥 Instructions

  1. Infuse the Garlic Oil:
    In a small skillet, heat 2 tablespoons (30 mL) olive oil and 4 minced garlic cloves (~12 g) over medium-low heat. Sauté gently for 2–3 minutes until very fragrant—do not let the garlic brown. Remove from heat and transfer to a medium mixing bowl to cool slightly.

  2. Prepare the Tomato Mixture:
    To the cooled garlic oil, add:

  4. ⅓ cup (10 g) thinly sliced basil
  5. 3 tablespoons (45 mL) balsamic vinegar
  6. ½ teaspoon (3 g) salt
  7. ¼ teaspoon (1 g) ground black pepper

Stir to combine. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 12 hours.

  1. Toast the Baguette:
    Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    Slice 1 baguette into 24 half-inch (1.25 cm) slices.
    Lightly brush both sides of each slice with the remaining 1 tablespoon (15 mL) olive oil.
    Place on a baking sheet in a single layer and toast for 12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.

  2. Serve:
    Just before serving, top each toasted baguette slice with a generous spoonful of the marinated tomato mixture. Serve immediately.


📝 Notes

  • For extra garlic flavor, rub each toasted baguette slice with a halved garlic clove before topping.
  • A drizzle of balsamic glaze just before serving can intensify the flavor.
  • Allowing the tomato mixture to marinate in the refrigerator enhances its flavor depth.
